Thanks to Peaugh and Vangelus' influences, I'm starting to get into the Transformers mania. They are great reviewers and could be spokespersons for Hasbro or Takara Tomy. It is like how the RRR's trio sold me to buying SHFs. If they would offer me a crap piece of toy - I'm sold. My question was "who's next?". After scrolling some of their great reviews, I shortly found myself scrambling for the Transformers Animated Cybertronian Megatron (Voyager Class). I had the TF WFC version so what the heck.
But I have to be strict in collecting these or my money will disappear without noticing. I am not like the RRR trio who are seemingly have all the money to buy the toys they wanted in just a click of a button. Or at least that was my impression. Besides I got a lot of obligations which keeps my spending habits in a minimum. If only I had the trio's prowess and spending habits. I'm still at awe how they manage to get more toy than the average person.
Anyway back to TF Megatron. Packaging wise, they are better looking than Takara's version. It came with an odd heptagonial shaped design with the Transformers Animated logo at the bottom. I never watched an episode of the show, but with the looks of it, it seems appealing especially for kids.
After I removed the annoying twisties, Megatron is a cybertronian helicopter. To those like me who haven't seen TF Animated, it is hard to tell which is the front and back side of the figure. Until I saw the translucent plastic which resembles the cockpit - go figure.
Transforming the toy to robot mode was easy, hence the age 5 and up and the level 3 info at the face of the box. The main gimmick on the transformation was spreading the head to reveal Megatron's head.
In robot mode, there are red translucent panels found on the legs, knees and his chest where the Decepticon logo was placed. I felt that Decepticon logo was too small to be noticed especially for an iconic figure like Megatron. There is not much poseability in Megatron. Joints are clicky and clunky and somewhat insignificant. It was utterly difficult to place him in various poses and I really struggled a lot.
Another feature is his canon with a fold up action to show the blades underneath. There is a button smartly hidden on top to press and shoot the purple missile. For a toy for kids 5 and up, the missile launches quite far, about five feet away.
In conclusion, whatever the toy may be, articulation and playability always counts for me. Sadly, Voyager Class Animated Cybertronian Megatron doesn't cut out amongst likeable figures. The part that annoys me the most is the cannon placed beside his arm. It always has a way of falling off and it gets in the way of the poseabilities for Megatron. The head is not on a full form and is titled towards the back. Good thing I just received Animated Optimus Prime who is 10x the fun than Megatron.
