One Piece Film Z Breaks Records

Yesterday December 17th, anime movie "ONE PIECE FILM Z" has broken records for most successful opening weekend for a Japanese movie over the past decade.

The 12th movie adaptation had more than 1,140,000 viewers and garnered about 1,372,050,000 Yen (or about $16,390,509 USD) since its opening day on December 16th. It has been over a decade since 2001 for a Japanese film to gross this much on its premier week.

The distribution company had prepared 2 million “pirate treasure bags” including a copy of the special “1,000th Volume” Oda had drawn exclusively for the moviegoers of ‘ONE PIECE FILM Z’.

Because of the overwhelming success, it has been reported that another 2 million copies will be printed to keep up with the expected growing number of viewers.
