I'm almost complete with the Sh Figuarts Kuuga selection with Rising Pegasus and Dragon. Both figures came in a nice box art that was purchasable during the Tamashii Nations 2010 event last October 2010. It took me awhile before I actually got them and I'm about to tell you if both are worth the wait.
The Tamashii Nations box is a stone patterned art with Pegasus and Dragon's emblems. Inside the Tamashii Nations 2010 box are two more individual boxes that separate Pegasus and Dragon. Obviously, Pegasus' is green and Dragon's blue. Both boxes have silhouettes of the figures which are very unique from today's SHFs. If Bandai continues this pattern, we will see the same box arts that will be sold on upcoming Tamashii Nations events.
Rising Dragon doesn't deviate from the original mold. The difference would be the gold trims noticeably seen on the toy. The Rising Arcle is pretty much the same to most of the rising forms. I'm a bit surprised that gold highlights match well with the metallic blue color of Dragon. Not really metallic but more of a glossy finish. What would be attractive are his dominant blue compound eyes.
His staff is now a double edged bo of some sort. Again, the detail of this accessory is stunning with a lot of Grongi letters etched on each side of the stick. I've seen great reviews on Dragon. Unfortunately mine has a problem, the paint on the arms are faded. It happened to me. I guess that is the downside of having no windows on the packaging. Like Forest Gump would say, life is box of chocolates....
Pegasus however caught my attention. Just like Dragon, the upgrades are the gold trims from the head to foot including the Rising Arcle. The blend of gold and green is like a shinny Christmas tree to me.
Kuuga Rising Pegasus is equipped with a very detailed bow gun. On the cross hairs, the bow has also Grongi chiseled on both sides. The difference between the ground Pegasus from the Rising form is that it has a bayonet attached. I saw some videos that theirs have this system wherein when you pull the back end of the bow, the bow folds up, and when pushed back returns into the normal state. For the nth time, mine didn't have one. It doesn't tick me a lot but it would be nice if it was.
Both figures have two sets of hands - open and holding and that is all there to it.
It sucks that I feel the price range for the set doesn't justify the contents inside. They could have bring in like a stand with logos on the base but no. Extra hand or a thumbs up hand is not even present. As a huge Kuuga fan, I feel I was jipped. This set is really nice to have only if you have the money to afford it. If you are just a regular collector, these are just an easy pass.
