Toy Review: Transformers Animated Optimus Prime (Voyager Class)

Until this post, I still haven't captured a glimpse of Transformer Animated and I still don't know when to catch on. Even if it aired some 3 years ago. But this didn't stop me in buying and liking Hasbro's TF Animated Optimus Prime figure. Judging by the reviews of the sempais (seniors) before me, their influences has lead me to Optimus. Besides I got Megatron, so why not get Optimus Prime as well?

The voyager box design continues to have that odd shaped imagination just like Megatron's. Just replace the Megatron's pic and blub with Optimus' and voila!. It took me a while to open it and to my surprise, the vehicle mode is quite decent. A matter that I wouldn't expect from American-released figures.

Way at the back of the cockpit is a hidden axe folded to conceal its threat to Decepticons. On top of the axe is a gun that has a latch at the bottom so you can fill water and have that squirting Autobot fun. Taking these off Optimus is a breeze. No problems here. Although I would rather have a bigger gun than a huge axe to make it feel more like its G1 predecessor. Can't complain here, this is Transformers Animated.

His poseabilities are remarkable and way more fun than Megatron (can I not stress this enough?). This toy has a waist joint - well as a default since he needs to swing that joint when transforming to robot more. Arms legs and feet are also way too cool and articulative (no such word) for a figure suited for children 5 and up.

In robot mode, he retains that classic G1 image and at the back, there is a switch so it will reveal its mouth. I'm really not a fan of Optimus having a mouth. Really looks like something taken out from the Teen Titans animated show. But his eyes has this light piping gimmick that tends to light up when you shine a light behind his neck. Windows are in blue translucent plastic with a hint of a electronic chip design on it.

There is a Japanese version for this toy line made by Takara Tomy. I would say Takara's version has more slick paint apps and has tighter joints. Problem is these versions are way more expensive than Hasbro's.

Optimus Prime as I've said on my video review, is way more easy to transform that Megatron. This wouldn't take more than 20 steps to complete his transformation from convoy to robot mode. If you happen to see this on a store shelf, indulge and pick this one up. You won't regret it.
