Toy Review: SH Figuarts Kamen Rider Amazon

Welcome to my review of the SH Figuarts Kamen Rider Amazon. The show didn't last as long as most of the rider with only 24 episodes under his belt. In later years, Amazon returns with the first 7  Showa Riders in specials and during the Hsieh era in Kamen Rider Decade and some what I call "KR reunion movies" (i.e. Den-O spring movies).

As mentioned on my previous SHF KR reviews, Bandai has created a box design similar to the rider's features. For example are reptilian/amphibian (most of us don't know what Amazon represents - a bug, a reptile or a amphibian) accents that trends on the box.You'll see more of this  theme on future Showa SHF Riders.

Out of the box, Amazon's fins are rubbery but solid. The tips of these fins are really sharp and can  firmly cut a piece of paper. The chest pieces are my pet peeve. During poses, it is hard to find the right angle without these parts twitching left and right.

It is an SHF first...Amazon is the first rider to actually have a hinged mouth piece. This makes Amazon look like Kermit than a rider. I would suggest to have an extra head with a better biting mold. In the long run, I feel that the jaw will become loose having his mouth open all the time. Beside, opening his mouth looks quirky than fearsome. A future Muppet in my opinion.

Worst part would be his leg articulation that often "locks up". Even if the engineering is similar to Ichigo, I can't comprehend why these fails with Amazon. Enough with the low lights. On a positive note, scarf movement is improved thanks to the ball joint connection. There is an extra scarf just for variety.

Accessories. Amazon came with a combined Gigi and Gaga armlet. I commend Bandai for having such amazing detail on this. 5 hands are also in place. These are two holding hands, two open hands and a chopping hand for the Dai Setsudan. Speaking of the final attack, the best part is the chopping effects part which highlights the figure especially is action poses. The effects part is split in half to insert the chopping hand. Unfortunately slicing down is the best pose to go with this. Last but not the least, the Condora belt and rubbery rope are also included in his arsenal.

There is a missed opportunity to make the least popular rider a likeable one with SH Figuarts. But the tough joints and confusing chest piece continues to hinder the rider elevate his stature to stardom. Good effort.
