Toy Review: Play Arts Kai Dante (Devil May Cry 3)

This is my review of the Play Arts Kai Dante - a younger version of the anti-hero from Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. For me it was Devil May Cry 3 that peaked interest of many console gamers as it tells a deeper understanding about Dante's past and how his personality evolves to what he is today. Capcom thinks so to hence the release of the Play Arts Kai version.

Out of the bat, Dante includes 1 replacement hand, the Rebellion, the devil guitar Nevan and what is Dante without his 45s Ebony and Ivory. Despite its size, the Rebellion is lighter than the Nevan. Mostly likely due to additional points of transformation from a guitar to a sickle/scythe. Because of the weight of the guitar, you need two hands to hold this weapon or else in scythe mode, his wrists turn about. The guns Ebony and Ivory are simple caliber 45s with their name printed on just one side.

Dante shares the same new joints for the arms with Vergil. However, Dante can cover these better than Vergil and it feels more proportionate on his body than his brother. Even with that note, still he struggles with long arms. What is endearing are the ball joints near the end of the coat to add that wind effect on his poses. As for the mold and paint apps, it is a mixture or coarse and smooth flavors, a signature effect from most of the Play Arts Kai figures nowadays.

DMC3 Dante ups DMC4 version because of the accessory count and better joints, I like the sculpting better from the latter. DMC4 Dante looks rugged, masculine and more fearsome than this boy band-ish younger version. It is a close call which is actually better and worth your every penny.
