Toy Review: S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Hibiki

Following Kabuto is Kamen Rider Hibiki joining the latest subset of the S.H. Figuarts line. Out the box, the figure almost follows intently the suit design of the Oni, with paint applications matching the character down to smallest details like the Ongekiko Drum on his waist. The default look doesn’t have attached accessories so you need to place them later on.

Accessories include 2 versions of the Henshin Onsa, 2 versions of Ongekibo clubs and 2 effects for the attack club heads, 8 wrist replacements, 3 animal discs and a holstered set. Attaching some of the parts is easy to do but be careful as you might lose the tabs around the waist. It is the same with the ends of the clubs as you replace these with flame effects.

Comparing this with Kabuto 2.0, Hibiki is more refined in terms of execution. The limitations on the joints are actually making the figure closer to human-like attributes. I absolutely like the sculpt, paint application and likeness to the hero and definitely one of the best releases for 2014. Problem is, he is quite more expensive than Kabuto, taking a huge bite even for seasoned collectors like me. Even so, this release is making me more excited to see other Hibiki characters to come out from the line.
