Toy Review: SH Figuarts Shadowmoon

The winner of the poll from the 2010 Tamashii Nations event, we introduce you to SH Figuarts Shadowmoon. Yes Shadowmoon was the crowd's favorite that is why we have Shadowmoon today.

Shadowmoon, is Minami Koutarou's (Kamen Rider Black/RX) step brother who were kidnapped by Gorgom to turn into twin moguls of death. Kamen Rider Black escaped but Shadow Moon, aka Akizuki Nobuhiko did not. Both were given a King Stone which allowed both brothers to turn into Kamen Riders. Unfortunately, Shadowmoon's memory was erased thus turning him to the dark side.

The box still has the old SHF design but this time it is absolutely shinny and a finger print magnet if I may add. This figure is highly anticipated and I think I know why.

The sculpt is very detailed to a tee especially in areas I forgot that it was there. I admire most is the head sculpt which reminds me of Jiban and Jaspion back in the 80's and early 90's - when metal hero was popular. The vents on both sides of the head is amazing and the inner panels were painted. The rest is a mixture of shinny metallic silver and smooth black finish.

Should pads are surprisingly made different. Instead of the usual hinge near the shoulder, somehow it is in reverse. I would say it is an execution of both peg and hinge engineering. It is something we might get used to in the future. This however has two downsides, first the pads rub against the shoulder when raised which can lead to scratches if not careful. Second is that it lifts to overlap the shoulders. As long as you know what you are doing, it is nothing to be iffy about.

The belt is another head turner, the King Stone is covered in a green translucent plastic. What I like most about SHF Shadowmoon is that the wing-like grasshopper legs found in the ankle folds up and down much like what is does on the series. If only it moves when you plant the feet or lift those up, I'll totally flip out. No pun intended.

Shadowmoon comes with some accessories but enough to make a Showa fan happy. Two pairs of holding hands, a pair of open hands and of course two Shadow Sabre (one shorter than the other) and the infamous Satan Sabre. These swords are exquisitely detailed to say the least. I'm gasping while I stare at these. In HWM SG forum, the only thing we wished it could have is the sheath for the Satan Sabre. A minor nitpick from true blue Kamen Rider Black aficionados. My nitpick was that the legs seemed bigger for the proportions of the torso and the A-frame body type looks off. Nevertheless a truly magnificent piece of art. One of the most anticipated figures to date. Another top 5 SHF candidate for 2011. It is all that you need from SHF Shadowmoon.
