Toy Review: S.I.C. Skyrider

In the past, I had doubts and have little expectation on the S.I.C line because of reports that joints break, bad articulation points and even if they look pleasing, provides low ROI for its user. It is to a point that you would not dare to take off these figures out of the box in fear, albeit its ridiculous price point.

That has changed as I dig deeper in the SIC line with the new showa riders coming into the foray. To finally shatter my dismay, I picked up SIC Skyrider to keep check if there will be developments in terms of playability. Welcome to my review of the S.I.C. Skyrider. Together lets explore.

SIC Skyrider so far has the smallest box, probably half of the two-pack figures I have reviewed on this blog. Even smaller than stand-alone figures like Agito or Hibiki. Obviously, there are no characters mentioning him as a Kamen Rider but that is ok because he was never introduced as Kamen Rider and tried to shortcut it as Skyrider.

Green is the motif for the box hinting with gold Gothic flames surrounding the font, top and sides. The inclusion of some English language (except for the his name) hasn't arrived in the SIC line, but who knows, it could follow SHF Shin Nigo and Ichigo in the near future.

Because the original mold is hand crafted, there is a certain level of mixed sculpting to make sure that no SIC is the same. It shows on how muscles are placed throughout the material. Speaking of muscles, these are crafted around the body in replacement of the costume molds. Paint apps is mix of Green and Brown/Bronze. These paints apps are darker to have that SIC feel than giving it closer to the actual TV show character.

Joints surprisingly are almost closer to the SH Figuarts line and placed precisely to make it more poseable and studier unlike its SIC predecessors. In fact, Bandai has added an extra joint on the shoulders and a hinge on the toe. For once, the knee now works and won't look awkward when posed. It feels like how SIC Kiwami Tamashii's are like. The only hindrance I can see in terms of movement is on the molded scarf on his neck. You may still able to tilt the head sideways but because of the scraf, it rubs much on the collar.

SIC Skyrider is inclusive of four hands (two grabbing/action and two chopping flying hands. He is also has an extended red spotted scarf to complete the look. Unlike Kamen Rider W, this doesn't have a hinge so a flowing look is nearly impossible. Even if you move this piece upright, it doesn't look right. We are also provided a stand to help with the overall poseability. The stand is quite unique as this has a hook underneath to hold the crotch probably in flight position or other poses such as a rider kick. I'm also happy that this hook is adjustable (depending on the ermm girth of Skyrider LOLz).

Skyrider is equally handsome as Kamen Rider W. It is easy to play with and put back in the box for safe keeping. As for the price point, he is adorable affordable. If you can purchase SH Figuarts, you can definitely afford Skyrider. The showa riders are almost complete, can't wait for Super 1 to arrive soon.
