Toy Review: Super Minipla Voltron

Once you have put all the pieces together in this Super Minipla Voltron, the instructions will set you with the 5 lions first. Each lion will have its own set of blasters or cannons attached on both sides of the front legs. Additionally, just like the cartoon, lions do have their signature blades that plugs on the upper jaw. All except the black lion whose blade only hangs by locking the jaw.
Similarly with other Voltron transforming sets, the Black lion’s head already comes with the face sculpt. You won’t be able to hide the front legs as it just folds behind but still visible and there will be extra pegs for the arms. The hind legs stretches out waiting for the legs to slot in.

Blue, red, yellow and green lions work differently by taking out all the legs and replaced with silver caps since there are no compartments. These silver caps do have specific grooves so you won’t place them in wrong sections. Tails come off for red and green lion but yellow and the blue lion folds back into their spine. Finally included is the sword and the cross shield. What happens to the rest of the weapons? They will combine together to build Volton’s Megablaster.

This set is a great alternative to those who are looking for Volton figures in this scale that is both a combining robot and with high level of articulation. However this is not cheap for a model kit. It ranges about 80-100 USD in the aftermarket, which is kinda difficult to swallow as there are other solid plastic figures out there that are cheaper, painted and you do not need to build from scratch. Moreover filling and cutting parts is I believe more challenging as it is not as smooth and soft than other model plastic kits like Gundams.
