Bringing back way to the start of the Marvel line up for S.H. Figuarts is with the first Avenger, Captain America. Bandai skipped the first Avenger movie and directly went with a modern suit version as per the movie Age of Ultron. He is on a familiar red, white and blue motif but as I’ve said, modernized, so it is more armor-ish than just leotards and/or spandex.
Cap has some basic accessories but a lot of gimmickry. He has 8 hands with a pair that have molded handle bars for the shield, Cap’s iconic shield, an open mouthed extra head, a set of eye balls and parts for that gimmick I mentioned that involves the shield. Both Captain America’s head can be split in half diagonally to replace the eye sockets with them facing on an angle. The gimmick parts allow to replace the handles on the shield in order to do the following.
First, the clear part attaches on the bottom of the shield and also clips under the forearm to make the figure assimilate a throwing stance. Next are the hands with the handle and an additional bar to latch into Cap’s entire arm. Lastly, when the small peg is removed from the back, another part is used to rest the shield on the back of the figure.
Holistically and aesthetically speaking, the figure looks great and better looking that what Figma has set out. How the shield comes into play and how it is utilized is just shear makes a lot of sense and it should be. However, the joints being so loose downplayed it and wobbly most of the time that makes it difficult to put it in different fighting stances. I believe that gaps in between the limbs don’t help the entire playability of the figure. Overall, I set this one as 50/50 good looking but joint execution or QC at least is kind of horrid.
