Toy Review: RAH220 DX Takeshi Hongo Late Ver. (Kamen Rider Ichigo)

The pose that saved lives. It was 1971 when Kamen Rider aired on local Japanese boob tubes by creators Ishinomori and Hirayama. Never did they realize it would be a Tokusatsu genre that would span for more than 40 years. Today, Kamen Rider 1 has been immortalized in many forms by many toy companies. But I'll concentrate on my latest hoot, Ichigo's human form Takeshi Hongo.

The RAH220 DX Takeshi Hongo has simple design with an image of the figure already on his Henshin position. Side panels labels Kamen Rider immortalizing justice, nice touch and revs you up to do something heroic. Underneath the face is the Tachibana Racing Logo representing their confidant Tobei Tachibana supplying riders from Ichigo to Stronger their bikes. He is like James Bond's Q for those who are not in the know.
Hongo has two chopping hands for his henshin poses, two relaxed hands and his red Cyclone Belt. The belt is a nicely crafted rubbery plastic with details seen on the DX version. It is quite difficult to bind this on to his waist because of the thick suede jacket. Just be careful in trying to force the buckle to snap into place since it feels finicky and won't hold well in the long run.

Unlike my previous review on Kamen Rider Ichigo, Hongo is able to swivel the hands freely with out constraint. These hands are pegged through a prong-type tab rather than a single solid peg. The rest of the joints should move quite well too but they are restricted by the fabric used on the figure.

Speaking of fabric, the materials used could be compared to the real thing. His black jacket is suede (lints stick on quickly) and his pants are actual jeans, even his pink shirt underneath the jacket is made from cotton. The pants are baggy but at least the tight leg fit hinders the pair in falling down.

Takeshi Hongo in RAH220 DX form for me is a fair set. Sculpting is well made and the fabric makes the figure more life-like. The joints move better than its rider form but the clothing used makes the pose ability harder to manage for our first rider. In addition, the suede jacket feels overwhelming for Takeshi. There are additional hands to change from fighting to henshin pose that you delight any kamen rider fan.
