Toy Review: Soul of Chogokin Full Action GX-79 Voltes V

Bandai started a new line of their chogokin line named Full Action with Voltes V or Chōdenji Machine Voltes V. Coded as GX 79, the chogokin set is a mix of PVC and die cast metal. Most of the metal parts lie within the joints making it a heavier figure than most robots on this scale. It is a non-transforming version however most of the details remain such as the wings on the Volt Frigate, Wheeled track on the back and part of the Volt Cruiser. The chest and buckle can be removed similarly on what it does in the anime.
The set will not be the same without the weapons. The first part will be 2 Whips, a pair of the Ultraelectromagnetic tops, the Laser Sword and the Chain knuckles. The tops can be detached from the stem and reattached together on the whips. Chain knuckles are segmented into 3 parts though I couldn’t remember the staff of the chain was used on the show.

He also comes with a platform stage and an arm three moving 3 moving segments that just plugs nicely under the figure. The stage also serves as a compartment to put some of the weapons and extra parts in. Lastly are several hands, Voltes Bazooka, finger missiles, a pin tool and the buckle for the Ground Fire. In order to use either of these weapons, you need to take out the hand and with the use of the pin, detaches the ball joint within. The buckle is a quick snap on though I wish that this could be a little bit higher. For the Bazooka, you need to place back one of the chopping hands to act as a trigger.

The GX 79 Full Action Voltes V is not meant really to become transforming robot as the name suggests, it is meant for collectors who wanted a version with maximum potential on articulation. Something has to give if one chooses the other. Colors will not be consistent especially on the joints since these have been replaced with die cast parts. For articulation, I have managed to put this into its limits without breaking any panels. However I would recommend to be extra careful on the skirting around the waist as it has the tendency to knock together and in most cases, locked in awkward positions. Overall, you’ll definitely have fun with this version.
